Character. Tucson's signature road event: fast, flat, hot desert roads in late-autumn sun. Not technically demanding but distance and heat demand respect. A firm favourite on the US amateur calendar.

Conditions. Late-autumn Sonoran desert: 18–26 °C, sunny, dry. Fine-grained dust is present but not as punishing as flint-gravel contamination.

Lube plan

If you wax — ZFC-recommended path. Hot dry desert conditions suit heat-tolerant wax blends well. Single pre-event application; carry Synergetic as emergency backup only.

If you're on oil — pragmatic equivalent. A quality oil pre-ride handles 160 km of Arizona flat cleanly. Carry a small bottle as insurance for the back half in the heat.

Long warm-weather race day — staged plan

Alpine / Dolomite race-day tarmac reaches 30°C+ on climbs even when the ambient forecast is cooler. Wax life shortens in the heat — same mitigation as the hot-weather plan: heat-tolerant wax base + Silca Endurance chip.

Above 35°C tarmac, wax-only life can drop by 30–40%. If you're riding in Calpe / Tucson / summer Southern Europe conditions, plan on shorter rewax intervals or a hot-weather additive.
