Character. The original BWR. A deliberately brutal mix of paved road, gravel, dirt, and trail through the San Diego backcountry. The waffle-iron elevation profile means no coasting. Strong amateur and professional field.
Conditions. San Diego April: 15–25 °C, dry season typically, dusty on dirt sectors. Variable — one year dust, next year mud if winter rains ran long.
Lube plan
If you wax — ZFC-recommended path. Dry-year: best wax, single pre-event application. Wet-year: wax plus Synergetic carry. Check the April forecast week-of — the difference between a dry and a wet BWR is dramatic.
If you're on oil — pragmatic equivalent. Apply pre-event, carry a small bottle for the back half. Mixed surfaces mean grit accumulation is higher than smooth gravel — wipe more aggressively than usual.
